Tapers’ Procession

They talk about it since the  XIII century, when the  ” Statutum  Potestati” obliged  everybody to join in the procession with a taper in honor of S.Jacopo,by exempting children,  sick and old people. 

Everyone in the Town had to participate with a lighted taper,preceded by the banners of the respective Quarters.

In the order they were: the members of eleven arts and crafts corporation, representations of neighbouring municipalities  accompanied by heralds, musicians and jesters. To follow Representations of  public institution of charity  ( hospitals,fraternities etc.),the podest with his court, the municipal judiciary with heralds riding horses and trumpet players. Ultimately  the religious houses,the Cathedral’s Chapter and the Bishop  in somptuous  trappings.
